Overview

Tanzania

GFC supports organizations and programs that focus on four specific issues: Learning, Enterprise, Safety, and Healthy Minds and Bodies.

Grants are awarded on an annual basis, with a typical funding relationship of three to six years. Grants range from $5,000 to $20,000 per year, growing in size and scope over the course of the funding relationship, and may be used for general or operating support of the grantee partner organization. GFC considers each grant an investment in the grantee organization’s mission and programs as well as its institutional growth and development.

All potential grantee partners are first required to submit a preliminary letter of inquiry. Although GFC awards new grants only twice a year (in June and December), interested organizations can submit a letter of inquiry at any time during the year. GFC uses the letter of inquiry to determine basic eligibility and fit with GFC’s selection criteria. Please review our portfolios and eligibility criteria carefully before submitting a letter of inquiry.

If a letter of inquiry falls within GFC’s priorities and selection criteria, GFC will follow up with the organization to solicit a full proposal, which generally ranges from five to ten pages in length. Full proposals are accepted by invitation only. Please do not contact GFC by phone or by email to ask about the status of your letter of inquiry. Due to the volume of inquiries, GFC cannot respond individually to those not selected for further consideration.

If the full proposal is approved, GFC will issue a letter of agreement to the grantee partner, outlining the terms and conditions of the grant. Grantee partners must submit a progress report after nine months and a final report after twelve months, as detailed in the letter of agreement. GFC will provide specific guidelines for these reports, which generally range from three to six pages in length. Failure to submit a report by the due date may result in ineligibility for future grants.
