Recent Grants
To date, GFC has made over $5 million in small grants to over 180 groups in sixty countries. Our current grantees include:
Shidhulai Swanirvar
Sangstha (SSS)
(Village Self-Reliance)
Pabna District, Bangladesh
Schools and Scholarships portfolio
SSS brings basic education, environmental training, and human
rights awareness to children, especially girls, who would otherwise
be unable to attend school. GFC's grant supports SSS's mobile boat
school program, which uses a solar- powered boat to provide basic
academics, Internet access, health awareness, human and gender rights
training, and library services to children in remote villages.
Luna Nueva (New Moon)
Asunción, Paraguay
Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children portfolio
Luna Nueva works to eradicate the commercial sexual exploitation of
children and other forms of violence against women and children through
programs in education, healthcare, confidence building, and human
rights awareness. GFC’s grant supports Luna Nueva’s outreach
and education programs, which each year reach approximately 250 girls
living in exploitative situations on the streets.
Rural Institute for Development Education (RIDE)
Kanchipuram, India
Hazardous Child Labor portfolio
One of the leading advocates for the eradication of child labor in
the state of Tamil Nadu’s silk looms, RIDE educates entire communities
about the dangers of child labor, alternative ways to boost family
incomes, and the far-reaching benefits of an educated, healthy, and
empowered population of children. GFC’s grant supports RIDE’s
village-based Child Labor Prevention and Intervention Centers and
its Bridge School Centers, which ease children’s transition
from the workplace to school.
Ikamva Labantu (The Future of Our Nation)
Cape Town, South Africa
The Distinctive Needs of Vulnerable Boys portfolio
Ikamva Labantu works in partnership with local residents
to improve the quality of life in their communities by addressing
a range of issues, including education, economic empowerment, and
home-based care. GFC’s grant supports the Boys/Men Kindness
Project, a unique effort through which a team of researchers, educators,
and specialists are working with young boys and their fathers to gather
data that will help break the prevalent cycle of negative masculine
behavior, which often includes domestic abuse and irresponsible sexual
behavior.
