Hope House
Washington, DC
Learning Portfolio
Hope House works with families of convicted felons in the Washington, DC area and serves their families with educational and social activities aimed at strengthening the father-to-child bond during periods of incarceration. Major programs include a father-to-child reading program, summer camps in the prisons and peer support groups for mothers and children. Fathers who qualify for the program are provided with a culturally-relevant children’s book and an audiotape or videotape in order to record a story for their child or children. For many fathers, this is the first story they have read to their children.
Eldany
Almaty, Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, the ninth-largest nation in the word, children and youth with physical and mental disabilities are continually left out of schooling and extracurricular activities. Eldany Charitable Foundation provides rehabilitative, psychological, and material support for children with cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and motor disabilities. They provide employment programs and a creative arts studio for disabled youth in order to give therapeutic support to the children, income-generating activities for the youth and the organization, and as a way to obliterate stereotypes about the limits of children with disabilities.
Tiny Toones
Phnom Penh, Cambodia
Safety Portfolio
45 percent of the population of Cambodia is under 18 years of age. In Phnom Penh alone, there are 20,000 children and youth living and working on the streets. Tiny Toones focuses on direct interventions with boys who are vulnerable to drug use, gang membership, sexual exploitation and physical abuse. Tiny Toones seeks to keep boys interested in education by teaching break dancing, rap, and DJ skills alongside basic English and Khmer language classes, traditional painting and computer training.
Manav Aashrita Santhan
Rajasthan, India
Healthy Minds and Bodies Portfolio
Rajasthan is the largest state in India and is home to many denotified tribal groups – ethnic groups once officially criminalized and still heavily discriminated against in Indian society. Manav Aashrita Santhan focuses on education, health, women’s empowerment and participatory governance with the most vulnerable and marginalized tribal populations. Their Young Girls Collective engages the community to address issues such as early marriage, health concerns, teen pregnancy, unsafe childbirth and abortion, and gender equality and empowerment.
