WASHINGTON, January 7, 2010 — The Global Fund for Children (GFC) is pleased to announce a $10,000 investment in the documentary film Easy Like Water, from Potomac Media Works. The film trailer was screened in Copenhagen at the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP15).
The film highlights the work of architect A. H. Mohammed Rezwan, who is using floating schools and libraries to combat the effects of global warming on riverside communities in Bangladesh. Mr. Rezwan’s floating schools offer safe harbor and an education to the children of his country, giving them the opportunity to unlock their potential and follow their dreams.
“The Global Fund for Children was one of the very first supporters of Mr. Rezwan’s work,” said Maya Ajmera, the president and founder of The Global Fund for Children. “We are thrilled to support this excellent film, which illustrates that solutions to some of the world’s largest problems can be found among those working at the grassroots level.”
The film’s director, Glenn Baker, is excited to share the ingenuity he witnessed in Bangladesh with wider audiences. “Today Bangladesh is a laboratory of climate adaptation, and the story of the floating schools told in Easy Like Water is a testament to the innovation, creativity, and community-based resilience of the Bangladeshi people. We welcome The Global Fund for Children's partnership in telling this vital story."
Easy Like Water is the fifth film investment for The Global Fund for Children. It is part of the organization’s Global Media Ventures program, which encompasses children’s books, documentary photography, and films, bringing the stories of children worldwide to greater audiences.
Easy Like Water is currently in production and is scheduled for release in late 2010.
