Children's Books
OPENING A WINDOW ONTO THE WORLD FOR YOUNG READERS
The Global Fund for Children creates books and resource guides for young readers that help expand their appreciation of the multicultural world in which they live. Our books provide insight into cultural diversity while presenting the many common experiences that children around the world share. These award-winning titles help young people grow into productive, caring members of our global society.
All of our books depict positive images of children, promote multiculturalism, and integrate the child’s perspective into the text. Since the debut of our first book, Children from Australia to Zimbabwe, in 1996, the Global Fund for Children collection has grown to twenty-one titles, including two Spanish-language translations, Ser Niño.
Global Fund for Children Books (formerly Shakti for Children) is part of GFC’s Global Media Ventures, which also includes films and documentary photography. Our publishing venture is the result of a unique and rewarding partnership with Charlesbridge Publishing, a children’s book publisher in Watertown, Massachusetts. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of our titles helps fund GFC's grantmaking program. By buying Global Fund for Children books, you are supporting our work in advancing the dignity of children and youth around the world.
In an effort to help community groups expand their educational resources on diversity and facilitate dialogue about global citizenship, our Books for Kids project donates Global Fund for Children books and resource guides to grassroots literacy groups worldwide that demonstrate a pressing need for educational materials.
