Safety Portfolio

Providing children with safe environments in which to learn, play, live, and grow is a fundamental tenet of our work. We believe that children’s futures can be secured only when children are protected from exploitation, violence, abuse, and neglect.

Our concept of safety is broadly drawn because the diversity of problems facing children is vast: victimization by the criminal justice system; exposure to violence and exploitation in a multitude of contexts, including armed conflicts, child trafficking, and hazardous labor; insufficient shelter; and many more. We give priority to organizations that remove children from immediate danger or harmful circumstances; provide rehabilitation services for children who have been victimized; and reintegrate children into society, family, and community life.

To date, we have given more than $2.9 million to 89 grantee partners in 48 countries under this portfolio.
