Howard Weinstein with his family

Howard Weinstein has been a loyal friend and donor to The Global Fund for Children since 2007. So it was no surprise to us when he called earlier this fall with the news of his skate-a-thon fundraiser on FirstGiving. Howard has always had a passion for skating, and he saw the perfect opportunity to do something he loved while raising money for a cause he believed in. Setting the bar high, Howard registered for one of the longest-running point-to-point inline-skating events in the world, Georgia’s 30th annual Athens to Atlanta Road Skate. As a father of two, it was important to him to show his young children, Evan and Alexandra, how to set goals and work hard to accomplish them. The easiest part was setting up the fundraiser.

It was a simple process: people supported Howard’s efforts using www.firstgiving.com. Because The Global Fund for Children already has a fundraising page on FirstGiving’s website, with an informative video and photos of our work around the world, he simply wrote a message telling people about the event and set a fundraising goal.

Through the generosity of his friends, Howard was able to surpass his goal, raising a total of $4,153 in just one week to support our work! We hope to use Howard’s fundraiser as a model for other creative and grassroots fundraisers in the upcoming months. We are very grateful for Howard’s dedication to our mission and for his generous friends and family who supported him in this endeavor.
