2006-2007 Annual Report

The Global Fund for Children is proud that 87 percent of our budget is directed to program services, helping to advance the dignity of children all over the world. Only 13 percent is directed to fundraising and general administration. This is well below the national average of 25 percent for such expenses. In addition, we are pleased to report that our reserve fund is now at $800,000.

Charity Navigator

Charity Navigator has awarded us their highest rating of four stars for the third consecutive year. Less than 9 percent of the nation's charities get this designation three years in a row. We are committed to continuing this high level of financial efficiency and accountability. This exceptional rating indicates that The Global Fund for Children "outperforms most charities in America in its efforts to operate in the most fiscally responsible way possible and demonstrates to the public that it is worthy of their trust."

2006-2007 Annual Report

Last fiscal year, The Global Fund for Children distributed $2,651,566 to 206 community-based organizations in 61 nations. We added 74 new innovative partners, allowing us to reach vulnerable children and youth in more communities around the globe. In addition to our grants, we offered our grantee partners value-added services such as assistance in leveraging additional funding, knowledge management initiatives, and organizational development support. Our Global Media Ventures program continued to expand our ability to reach people through children's books, documentary photography, and film.

  • Our newest book, Global Babies, familiarizes little ones with the friendly faces of their peers around the world.
  • We invested in two documentary films, Journey of a Red Fridge and War Child, which are due to be released in 2007-2008.
  • Our third GFC/ICP fellow, Malin Fezehai, photographed the lives of children served by four of our grantee partners in Peru and Washington, DC.
  • Through a special grant from Oprah's Angel Network, our Books for Kids project distributed over 6,500 Global Fund for Children books to community-based organizations in war-torn regions to facilitate understanding and tolerance.

Financial Highlights of the 2006-2007 Fiscal Year:

  • Our operating budget of $5.1 million was a 40 percent increase over the previous year's budget. The majority of this increase was in our grantmaking program, both in direct grants and in program infrastructure. As we continue to expand our grantmaking to new levels, this investment in infrastructure is critical for sustaining the quality of our work.

  • Our growing reputation, combined with our ongoing focus on outcomes, resulted in a more than a doubling of pledges, or promises to give, which contributed to our receipt of a record $6.9 million in revenue for 2006-2007. The largest component of this support continued to be from individuals.

  • We met our goal of diversifying our funding sources, in large measure through significant growth in support from corporate donors. At the same time, we have preserved our close relationships with existing supporters.
